The Meaning of Menstrual Cramps
Menstrual cramps are not some casual unfortunate thing that you are "doomed" into as a woman...
Your cramps carry profound messages.
If you truly bring your presence & awareness deep into your cramps, you will discover...
Unacknowledged pain.
Unexpressed anger & rage.
Deep grief.
And old structures in your consciousness that are ready to crumble.
Your period is literally a menstruation of the old, making room for the new.
This goes so far beyond just the shedding of the uterine lining.
This was emphasized to me even more clearly as I explored my cramps this morning.
For most of my life I actually did not experience any menstrual cramps... my periods were easy breezy.
In recent years, they have become more noticeable (though not unbearable).
As I entered into more subtle layers of awareness, giving a voice to my cramps, I discovered deeply held grief, pain, & anger.
I could clearly feel that this was connected to my relationship with my mom, and the lineage of women in our family.
This is not the first time I have journeyed deeply into my menstrual cramps to discover something like this.
What is interesting, is when I am truly willing to explore what is arising, the cramps dissipate.
It's like the cramps are: a) calling my attention and b) a reflection of my resistance to acknowledge & release what is ready to shift.
My invitation is to allow your menstrual cramps (or other symptoms) to guide you into deeper connection with your womb, body & consciousness.
